“The Recess” by Navid Nikkhah Azad was selected to go on screen in the Current Window (Finestra d’Actualitat) section of the 10th Mostremp Cinema Rural al Pallars in Tremp, Spain.
Mostremp Cinema Rural al Pallars is a cinematic event which takes place each August with the theme “Rural Life” in the city of Pallars in Catalonia, Spain. The festival is organized by Associació Mostremp Amics del Cinema de Tremp and Ajuntament de Tremp. Mostremp Cinema Rural al Pallars is currently the only short film festival on the theme of “Rural Life” all through Catalonia and the event is considered as one of the few of its kind in Spain.
“The Recess” by Navid Nikkhah Azad participated in the non-competitive section of Finestra d’Actualitat (Current Window) by the official invitation of Jose Bergés, director of the festival. In this section, there were four short films selected by the festival director with a theme unrelated to “Rural Life”.
The Spanish-Iranian short drama “The Recess” has been officially selected in 160 international film festivals including FIAPF-accredited, Goya Awards qualifying festivals and Academy Award® qualifying festival around the world and has won 30 awards.
Directed and produced by Navid Nikkhah Azad and co-produced by Spanish producer Delia Guerra Parra and Mohammad Shahverdy, “The Recess” brings the story of the self-immolated Sahar Khodayari (Iranian Blue Girl) to life.
Inspired by true events, the movie follows Sahar, a 17-year-old student who is determined to skip high school during recess to go to the football stadium to watch a football match between Esteghlal F.C. vs. Al-Ain as part of the AFC Champions League in violation of the national ban on women entering football stadiums in Iran.
