“The Recess” by Navid Nikkhah Azad has been selected to compete in the 14th edition of the Chesapeake Film Festival in the US, which took place from October 1-10, 2021.
Chesapeake Film Festival is an annual international event which celebrates cinema each October in Maryland, USA. The mission of the Chesapeake film Festival is to enrich, entertain, educate and inspire by bringing the finest in environmental, narrative, documentary and short films to the Chesapeake Bay community and to the world.
The Spanish-Iranian short drama “The Recess” has been officially selected in 160 international film festivals including FIAPF-accredited, Goya Awards qualifying festivals and Academy Award® qualifying festival around the world and has won 30 awards.
Directed and produced by Navid Nikkhah Azad and co-produced by Spanish producer Delia Guerra Parra and Mohammad Shahverdy, “The Recess” brings the story of the self-immolated Sahar Khodayari (Iranian Blue Girl) to life.
Inspired by true events, the movie follows Sahar, a 17-year-old student who is determined to skip high school during recess to go to the football stadium to watch a football match between Esteghlal F.C. vs. Al-Ain as part of the AFC Champions League in violation of the national ban on women entering football stadiums in Iran.
