“The Recess” by Navid Nikkhah Azad has been selected to compete in the 24th edition of the Sportfilm Liberec (Sportfilm Liberec International FICTS Festival) in Czech Republic, which took place from September 30-October 10, 2021.
Sportfilm Liberec (Sportfilm Liberec International FICTS Festival) is dedicated to films about sports and is located in a magical city of Liberec in northern Czech Republic. The guarantor of this festival series is the Federation Internationale Cinema Television Sportifs (FICTS) joining 70 countries under the auspices of the International Olympic Committee. Sportfilm also cooperates with the running series Run Czech.
The Spanish-Iranian short drama “The Recess” has been officially selected in 160 international film festivals including FIAPF-accredited, Goya Awards qualifying festivals and Academy Award® qualifying festival around the world and has won 30 awards.
Directed and produced by Navid Nikkhah Azad and co-produced by Spanish producer Delia Guerra Parra and Mohammad Shahverdy, “The Recess” brings the story of the self-immolated Sahar Khodayari (Iranian Blue Girl) to life.
Inspired by true events, the movie follows Sahar, a 17-year-old student who is determined to skip high school during recess to go to the football stadium to watch a football match between Esteghlal F.C. vs. Al-Ain as part of the AFC Champions League in violation of the national ban on women entering football stadiums in Iran.
