“The Recess” by Navid Nikkhah Azad has been selected to compete in the 21st edition of the Nevada City Film Festival in the U.S., which took place virtually from August 27-September 12, 2021.
Nevada City Film Festival (NCFF) was founded in 2001. For 21 years, it has brought top independent film, music and comedy, along with attracting thousands of attendees, international filmmakers, and industry guests to the historic town of Nevada City, California.
The Spanish-Iranian short drama “The Recess” has been officially selected in 160 international film festivals including FIAPF-accredited, Goya Awards qualifying festivals and Academy Award® qualifying festival around the world and has won 30 awards.
Directed and produced by Navid Nikkhah Azad and co-produced by Spanish producer Delia Guerra Parra and Mohammad Shahverdy, “The Recess” brings the story of the self-immolated Sahar Khodayari (Iranian Blue Girl) to life.
Inspired by true events, the movie follows Sahar, a 17-year-old student who is determined to skip high school during recess to go to the football stadium to watch a football match between Esteghlal F.C. vs. Al-Ain as part of the AFC Champions League in violation of the national ban on women entering football stadiums in Iran.
