“The Recess” by Navid Nikkhah Azad has been selected to compete in the 43rd edition of the Lugo Film Week (Semana de Cine de Lugo), which took place in Lugo, Spain from September 20 – 25, 2021.
Lugo Film Week (Semana de Cine de Lugo) is a an international film week which aims to present the best author movies from around the world every year on late September in Lugo, Spain.
“The Recess” went on screen on September 23, 2021 along with other short films in ‘AS CURTAS TAMÉN SON CINE’ (Shorts Are Also Films) section. This section is devoted to the acclaimed short movies which screened and won top prizes in important film festivals around the globe.
The Spanish-Iranian short drama “The Recess” has been officially selected in 160 international film festivals including FIAPF-accredited, Goya Awards qualifying festivals and Academy Award® qualifying festival around the world and has won 30 awards.
Directed and produced by Navid Nikkhah Azad and co-produced by Spanish producer Delia Guerra Parra and Mohammad Shahverdy, “The Recess” brings the story of the self-immolated Sahar Khodayari (Iranian Blue Girl) to life.
Inspired by true events, the movie follows Sahar, a 17-year-old student who is determined to skip high school during recess to go to the football stadium to watch a football match between Esteghlal F.C. vs. Al-Ain as part of the AFC Champions League in violation of the national ban on women entering football stadiums in Iran.
