“The Recess” by Navid Nikkhah Azad has been selected to compete in the 11th edition of the Festival de Cine Estudiantil FENACIES, which took place in Uruguay from September 6-12, 2021.
Festival de Cine Estudiantil FENACIES (Student Film Festival FENACIES) is the national student film festival in Uruguay. FENACIES is an organization founded in 2011 that started with the aim of creating a cinema festival specifically to youth, where competition would be fair and creativity and effort of these would be valued.
The Spanish-Iranian short drama “The Recess” has been officially selected in 160 international film festivals including FIAPF-accredited, Goya Awards qualifying festivals and Academy Award® qualifying festival around the world and has won 30 awards.
Directed and produced by Navid Nikkhah Azad and co-produced by Spanish producer Delia Guerra Parra and Mohammad Shahverdy, “The Recess” brings the story of the self-immolated Sahar Khodayari (Iranian Blue Girl) to life.
Inspired by true events, the movie follows Sahar, a 17-year-old student who is determined to skip high school during recess to go to the football stadium to watch a football match between Esteghlal F.C. vs. Al-Ain as part of the AFC Champions League in violation of the national ban on women entering football stadiums in Iran.
