“The Recess” by Navid Nikkhah Azad has been selected to compete in the 18th edition of the FECISO, Festival de Cine Social de Castilla-la Mancha, in Spain, which took place in Torrijos, Spain from October 1-December 14, 2021.
FECISO (Festival de Cine Social de Castilla-la Mancha) was born in Toledo in 2003. It aims to make awareness about the importance of audiovisual media in Spanish society today and promoting the values of solidarity and tolerance. The festival takes place in Torrijos; a Spanish municipality of Toledo province, in the autonomous community of Castile-La Mancha.
The Spanish-Iranian short drama “The Recess” has been officially selected in 160 international film festivals including FIAPF-accredited, Goya Awards qualifying festivals and Academy Award® qualifying festival around the world and has won 30 awards.
Directed and produced by Navid Nikkhah Azad and co-produced by Spanish producer Delia Guerra Parra and Mohammad Shahverdy, “The Recess” brings the story of the self-immolated Sahar Khodayari (Iranian Blue Girl) to life.
Inspired by true events, the movie follows Sahar, a 17-year-old student who is determined to skip high school during recess to go to the football stadium to watch a football match between Esteghlal F.C. vs. Al-Ain as part of the AFC Champions League in violation of the national ban on women entering football stadiums in Iran.
